What We Collect

When you use the age finder, we log the brand, model number, serial number, and result status of each query, together with a timestamp. These logs help us verify decoding accuracy and decide which appliance models and brands to research next. We also count them for the totals on our statistics page. We do not ask for or store your name, email address, or account details, because the tool has no accounts.

The Appliage App

The Appliage app for iPhone and Android uses the same server as this website, so everything on this page also applies to the app.

Lookups

When you look up an appliance, the app sends us the brand, model number and serial number, along with the app's name and version. We save them as described in What We Collect.

Scanning

When you scan a rating plate or choose a photo, your phone finds the text in the photo. On iPhone this is done by Apple Vision, and on Android by Google ML Kit. The photo is not uploaded, and the app does not keep it.

The app then sends us that text, where each line appears in the photo, any barcode on the plate, and the brand you picked. Our server uses the labels on the plate, that brand's serial number rules and our model records to work out which text is the serial number and which is the model number. It sends back up to five likely matches for each and does not keep the text.

You check the numbers and fix any that are wrong before the lookup. Only that lookup is saved.

Google ML Kit (Android only)

ML Kit collects some technical information about how it is used, such as device and app details, an identifier for your installation, performance measurements, and usage and error reports. Google may receive this when your phone is online and handles it under its own privacy policy. It does not include your photos or the text found in them. Google explains what ML Kit collects at https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure. The iPhone app does not include ML Kit.

Camera and photos

The app uses the camera only while you scan. When you choose a photo, the app gets only the photo you pick.

History

Your lookups are saved on your phone so you can open them again. You can delete them on the History tab, and they are removed when you delete the app.

The app has no account and no ads, and it does not include any third party analytics or tracking tools.

What We Do Not Do

We do not sell query data. We do not use serial numbers for anything other than decoding, improving coverage and the totals on our statistics page. We do not combine your queries with data from other websites to build a profile of you.

If you use the share feature, the link you create contains the brand, model, and serial number you entered, so anyone who receives the link can see them. Do not share a report link if you do not want those details visible to the recipient.

Feedback

If you answer "Was this right?", report a lookup we could not decode, or ask us to add a brand, we save your answer, any date or note you add, and the brand and numbers it relates to. This helps us fix problems and decide which brands to add next. Reports sent from the app also include the app's name and version.

Infrastructure and Cookies

This site is hosted by Vercel, which processes visitor IP addresses to deliver pages and provide security; see Vercel’s privacy policy for details. Lookups from this site and the app pass through Vercel and Cloudflare on their way to our server. The site does not set tracking cookies. If we later add advertising or other analytics services, this policy will be updated first and any required consent mechanisms will be added.

Visit Statistics (website)

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. For each page view it records the page address without the part after the question mark, so the brand, model number and serial number in a report link are not sent. It also records the website that linked to the page, the browser, operating system and device type, and an approximate location (country, region and city). Vercel works out the location from the IP address when the page is requested and does not store the address. Visitors are counted without cookies: for one day, Vercel recognizes repeat visits by a code made from the request, then discards it. We see the figures only as totals.

Data Retention

Query logs are retained while they remain useful for accuracy testing and coverage planning. You may request deletion of log entries that contain a specific serial number by emailing us.

Brand Names and Logos

Brand names and logos shown on Appliage are trademarks of their respective owners. We show them only so you can find the serial number rules that apply to your appliance. Appliage is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any appliance manufacturer.
