For example, split serial number 1306ABCDEFG as 13 | 06 | ABCDEFG. The first pair means 2013, the second pair means June, and the remaining characters identify production and unit details but do not influence the manufacture date.
Appliage uses this YYMM structure for Goodman dates from 1996 onward. The Goodman serial number alone is enough to return the manufacture month and an estimated age, so the model number is optional.

Appliage applies this Goodman structure from 1996 onward. A 2004 federal recall pairs serials starting 96 with Goodman units made in January 1996, so codes 96 through 99 mean 1996 through 1999. Codes for years after the current date are excluded as future dates.

Age Decode Example

The result is February 2002 (Estimated).
- Split serial number 0202ABCDEFG as 02 | 02 | ABCDEFG.
- The first 02 means 2002, and the second 02 means February.
- ABCDEFG contains factory and unit details but does not influence the manufacture date.
- The 1996 start of this format and today’s date leave 2002 as the only year that fits.
Therefore, the estimated manufacture date is February 2002.
Goodman Serial Numbers Appliage Cannot Find the Age
A serial number that is too short, does not begin with four digits, or has a month above 12 does not match the supported Goodman structure. A date before 1996 is also outside this YYMM rule. Appliage returns an explanation instead of applying the modern positions to an older serial format.
The only official record of Goodman production before 1996 is a vent pipe program with no serial layout, so a Goodman serial that lands in 1990 through 1995 gets no manufacture date.
A split HVAC system has separate rating plates on its indoor and outdoor equipment. Decode each serial number separately because the two components may have different manufacture months.
The manufacture month can differ from the installation date and warranty start date. A unit may remain with a distributor or installer before it is placed in service.
Amana HVAC Is Not an Amana Kitchen Appliance
Amana HVAC equipment uses the same YYMM structure as Goodman. Amana refrigerators, washers, dryers, and other household appliances use the Whirlpool appliance system. Select HVAC when the rating plate is on an air conditioner, heat pump, furnace, or air handler. Older ten digit Amana HVAC serials from 1987 through 1994 also carry a federal recall backed year and month, an exception that does not extend to Goodman or Janitrol plates.
Janitrol has separate limits. A numeric Janitrol serial can use YYMM from 1990 through 2005. Older letter structures, known California horizontal furnaces from Consolidated Industries, and UH-150 or UH-200 oil furnaces made by Ducane are not dated with the Goodman calculation.
