Frigidaire HVAC Age by Serial Number

Frigidaire household appliances and Frigidaire HVAC equipment use different serial-number systems. The Frigidaire name is used on the HVAC equipment under license from Electrolux Consumer Products, while Nordyne manufactures the heating and cooling products. Therefore, the Frigidaire HVAC units described here use Nordyne’s YYMM serial-number structure rather than the Electrolux appliance structure.

HVAC equipment only. This result covers the Nortek/Frigidaire HVAC line; Frigidaire household appliances use the Electrolux-family system.

For example, FRG9911223344 separates as FRG | 99 | 11 | 223344: the first three characters are the product prefix, positions 4–5 show the two-digit year, positions 6–7 show the month, and the remaining characters identify the individual unit. Nortek’s dated examples of this structure begin in 1989; that is an evidence floor, not a published start for the format. The Frigidaire HVAC line itself begins in 1997, so a serial pointing before that brand boundary still gets no date on this page. The serial number alone is enough to return the manufacture month and an estimated age, so the model number is optional.

Example Frigidaire gas furnace rating plate with serial number FRG9911223344 and its date code explained.
Example plate redrawn for this guide. Serial number FRG9911223344 gives November 1999.

The example FRG9911223344 separates as FRG | 99 | 11 | 223344.

Positions Characters in the example Meaning
1–3 FRG Product prefix
4–5 99 Two-digit manufacture year
6–7 11 Numeric manufacture month
8 onward 223344 Sequence that identifies the individual unit

The product prefix changes with the equipment series, and the final sequence identifies the individual unit. Neither field influences the manufacture date. Count the first three characters before reading the two date pairs.

Frigidaire HVAC year codes

Code in positions 4–5 Manufacture year
97–99 1997–1999
00–26 2000–2026
27–96 No result on this page because it would point to a future year or to a year before the Frigidaire HVAC line began in 1997

Frigidaire HVAC month codes

Code Month Code Month
01 January 07 July
02 February 08 August
03 March 09 September
04 April 10 October
05 May 11 November
06 June 12 December

A month code of 00 or 13 through 99 does not match this serial-number format.

Nortek’s serial-date guide defines the prefix, year, and month positions used above.

Why Frigidaire Appliance and HVAC Serial Numbers Differ

The official Frigidaire HVAC About page identifies Nordyne as the manufacturer of the heating and cooling products. The Frigidaire HVAC contact page states that the Frigidaire trademark is used under license from Electrolux Consumer Products.

Therefore, a Frigidaire refrigerator, range, or washer belongs in the Frigidaire serial number lookup, while this page is for furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and package units. The Nordyne serial number lookup explains the same HVAC positions on related equipment.

Frigidaire HVAC Serial Numbers Appliage Cannot Find the Age

Appliage cannot use this rule if the serial number does not begin with a three-character prefix followed by a valid two-digit year and month. It also cannot return an age if the year falls before the Frigidaire HVAC line began in 1997, the year would be in the future, or positions 6–7 contain 00 or a number above 12.

Make sure the serial number comes from the Frigidaire HVAC equipment plate. A home can have a furnace, indoor coil, and outdoor unit made in different years, so record each rating plate separately. A compressor or motor serial number dates that component rather than the complete HVAC unit.

Manufacture Date and Installation Date

The serial number provides an estimated manufacture month. The equipment may have been installed later, so an invoice, permit, or contractor record can show a different date. A service sticker records maintenance or repair and should not replace the manufacture date.
