Eight or nine characters: The first character is the month code, and the second is the year code. A nine-character serial uses the same eight-character core followed by a revision letter. For example, AG123456Z separates as A | G | 123456 | Z. A means January, G means 2016, 123456 is the unit sequence, and Z is the revision letter. Therefore, the manufacture date is January 2016.
General 10- or 11-character serial numbers: Separate the serial as opening character | two-digit year | two-digit month | remaining sequence. For example, H121202183 separates as H | 12 | 12 | 02183. The first 12 means 2012, the second 12 means December, and 02183 is the unit sequence. Therefore, the manufacture date is December 2012.
Eleven-character wine-cooler serial numbers: Haier wine coolers place the year and month at the beginning instead. For example, enter model number HBCN05FVS with serial number 14051234567. The serial separates as 14 | 05 | 1234567. The code 14 means 2014, 05 means May, and 1234567 is the unit sequence. The model identifies it as a wine cooler, so Appliage returns May 2014.
Long serial numbers with 18 to 20 characters: Positions 1–13 form the product prefix, while positions 14–16 give the year, month, and day. For example, BL04F4E8N00BLF1D0156 separates as BL04F4E8N00BL | F | 1 | D | 0156. F means 2015, 1 means January, D means day 13, and 0156 is the unit sequence. Therefore, the manufacture date is January 13, 2015.
Appliage uses the serial length and appliance type to select the correct structure. The 10-character numeric structure provides the date without a model number. For an 11-character serial, enter the model number so Appliage can distinguish a wine-cooler serial from the general structure. In both numeric structures, the two-digit code can point back to Haier’s 1984 founding. For example, 98 points to 1998 and 12 to 2012. A pre-1999 reading remains visible but is marked unlikely because Haier’s dated U.S. evidence begins in 1999; that is not a published start date for the serial format.
Appliage decodes three Haier date systems. Ten and eleven character serial numbers can point from 1984 to today: positions 2 and 3 give a two digit year and positions 4 and 5 give the month. Readings before the 1999 U.S. evidence floor appear as unlikely candidates. Eight character serial numbers cover 2016 through 2022, with a month letter first and a year letter second. Eighteen to twenty character serial numbers cover 2009 through 2018 and give a year, month, and day. Each system has its own section below.
The three systems overlap in time, so go by the length of the serial number, not by the year. Count the characters: eight, or nine with a revision letter at the end; ten or eleven; or eighteen to twenty. An eleven character serial number also needs the model number, because a wine cooler puts the year and month at the very start instead.
Haier Serial Number Explanation
| Serial length | Date positions | How to recognize the structure | Possible result |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 characters | 1 = month letter; 2 = year letter | The date begins with two letters | One manufacture month for accepted year letters |
| 9 characters | 1 = month letter; 2 = year letter | The first eight characters use the same structure; character 9 is a revision letter | One manufacture month for accepted year letters |
| 10 or 11 characters | 2–3 = two-digit year; 4–5 = numeric month | General numeric YYMM structure after one opening character | One manufacture month |
| 11-character wine cooler | 1–2 = two-digit year; 3–4 = numeric month | The model identifies the appliance as a wine cooler | One manufacture month |
| 18–20 characters | 14 = year; 15 = month; 16 = day | Three coded date characters near the end | One manufacture day |

Eight- and nine-character Haier serial numbers
Position 1 is the month letter, position 2 is the year letter, and positions 3–8 are the unit sequence. In a nine-character serial, position 9 is a revision letter. Haier’s accepted year letters in this structure cover 2016 through 2022.

General 10- or 11-character serial numbers
Separate this structure as opening character | YY | MM | remaining sequence. Positions 2–3 provide the two-digit year, and positions 4–5 provide a month from 01 through 12.
Eleven-character wine-cooler serial numbers
Wine-cooler serials move YYMM to the beginning: positions 1–2 provide the two-digit year, positions 3–4 provide the month, and positions 5–11 are the unit sequence.
| Code range | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 01–09 | January through September |
| 10 | October |
| 11 | November |
| 12 | December |
| 00 or 13–99 | Invalid month code |
Long 18- to 20-character serial numbers
Positions 1–13 are the product prefix, position 14 is the year code, position 15 is the month code, position 16 is the day code, and the remaining characters are the unit sequence.

Haier Serial Numbers Appliage Cannot Find the Age
Appliage does not return a date when a numeric Haier code would fall before Haier existed in 1984 or after the current month. It also cannot select the correct layout for an 11-character serial when the model number is missing and the date positions do not match the general structure.
A numeric serial that points to 1984–1998 can still appear as an unlikely candidate; a U.S. records floor is not proof that Haier did not use the format earlier. Conflicting eight-character year letters and long-format year codes after 2018 still return no date. Haier HVAC equipment also uses a separate system.
Haier America in the United States
Archived Haier America product pages show compact and full size refrigerators in the U.S. catalog by 2002. An archive date only tells you when the catalog page was saved, not when any one refrigerator was built.
This page is for appliances whose plate says Haier. GE Appliances is a Haier company, but GE-branded machines have a different date chart. If the plate says GE, use the GE serial number lookup.
